∙ 14y agoThe French, like Americans, holiday mostly in their own country; only the French get a decent amount of holiday, 5-6 weeks a year on average. If you ask a Frenchman what the choices for holiday are, he'll say 'Mer, Campagne, Montagne' - sea, countryside, mountains. The mountains are most popular in winter, the countryside in spring and autumn, and the sea in summer. French hotels are not expensive, but traditionally one hires a cottage or villa for the summer holiday, and a very larghe number of French people have a second home in the country, usually as a result of their parents or grandparents having moved to the towns without ever selling the country property.
