Really, I can just cut and paste the Wikipedia article here, but that won't be right. Classic animation, is really just cel animation. It is the type of animation where each 'frame' is drawn again and again for one slight movement. A few examples of usage of Classing Animation is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Anastasia (Don Bluf/Disney), Land Before Time, Bambi, et cetera.
It is also referred to as traditional animation and cel animation. You can find a more informative description in the following link:

Flat animation is animation that is 2-D. Think of the way classic Disney movies were animated...artists used frame by frame illustrations to create images that appeared to move when the frames were run together quickly. Flat animation is just as it sounds - flat, no 3D, no clay...
The animation technique that involves creating each frame of the animation in sequence is called traditional or hand-drawn animation. In this method, animators draw each frame by hand, resulting in a fluid motion when the frames are played in succession. This technique can be time-consuming but allows for a high level of artistic expression and detail. Examples include classic Disney films and many other animated features.

For example if we takeicon of classic burger menu, when you click on it, it becomes a close icon with a fun "ninja" effect. The animation is reversed when you click on the close icon which turns it into the initial hamburger icon again, this is possible because of icon animation.

Traditional cell animation involves hand-drawing each frame on a transparent sheet, known as a cell, which is then layered over a background. The cells are photographed one frame at a time to create the illusion of movement when played in sequence. This technique has been widely used in classic animated films before the advent of digital animation.
