How long does it take to become a marine sniper?
First obtain a good, preferrably high expert, annual rifle
marksmanship score, then request to go to a sniper INDOC. If you
pass the INDOC, you report to sniper school. If you pass sniper
school, then you go back to the fleet. You also need a gt score
above 110. PFT score in the high first class range. Most units
require you to have been on a previous deployment. Lets not forget
being in the 03 field also. (infantry) Different platoons have
different requirements. Units that are hurting for guys might tend
to be real relaxed about certain things such as PFT. You may get by
with a 225. Units that have one or two slots open however, will be
extremely competitive. You have to understand that you need to get
your ducks in a row to even take the indoc. Rifle score, GT score,
PFT, and not getting NJPs. Then when you take the indoc it's a
competition between you and everyone else there. Then when you get
to the platoon, it's a competition to get a school slot. Then at
school you have a better chance of failing than you do of passing
statistically. Best advice I can give you is that you need to take
each step one at a time and to never quit. It's doable, but it will
be the hardest thing you might ever do.
