Most people would refer it to a hatchet, a machete, or a cleaver. It's none of those things. It's a bill hook, a tool used in forestry to chop thick vegetation and small branches. The spike is designed to improve effectiveness at chopping rounded objects (like a branch). Military grade bill hooks (called Bills) are more related to halberds, and they were a nasty piece of work against heavily armored infantry (i.e. plate mail).
