The word appears in the song "Easter Parade". Photographers take pictures of good looking ladies as they stroll down Fifth Avenue and post those pictures in the Sunday newspaper, in the magazine section, which was at one time printed with the rotogravure process.

How can you put rotogravure in a sentence?

Rotogravure , a process widely used by the Newspapers for color-roto editions, later called Colorfoto, was NOT invented by Irving Langmuir, though it does rhyme! Thisis a very popular wishful thinking (fact) Langmuir was a Nobel prize winning chemical scientist.

What does the word rotogravure mean in the song Easter Parade?

# An intaglio printing process in which letters and pictures are transferred from an etched copper cylinder to a web of paper, plastic, or similar material in a rotary press. # Printed material, such as a newspaper section, produced by this process. Having never heard the song or knowing the context in which the word is used, I would assume it means the individual will find themselves squished in a rotary press or wind up in the newspaper as the result of some action. http://www.answers.com/topic/rotogravure?cat=biz-fin&method=26&initiator=WANS The above answer is both technical and cute, but the person who asked (and maybe the one who answered, as well!) might like to know that the Irving Berlin song refers to the old-timey promenade of fashionably-dressed people down Fifth Avenue, New York on Easter Day. The newspaper photographers would photograph stylish society people and publish them in the Sunday supplement color magazine of their newspaper the following week, the magazine being produced by, of course, rotogravure. The idea of the song is: We may not be high society, but you look so pretty that "the photographers will snap us, and you'll find that you're in the rotogravure." Incidentally, the song is from a very cute 1948 movie by the same name, with the twist that though usually sung by a man to a woman, Judy sings it to Fred Astaire, to whom she has just given a classy top hat with a big satin bow. ("Never saw you look quite so pretty before. Never saw you dress quite so handsome, what's more....") http://www.jgdb.com/easter.htm

Did Henry VII have seven children?

No, unless this is a coincidence like the joke that Irving Langmuir- noted, in fact Nobel Prize winning chemist and electro-chemist invented Rotogravure= rhymes with his name. This is not true. Some of Mr. Langmuir"s discoveries may have led to printing devices or processes but not necessarilyl. it"s a neat gimmick, making the story tell in rhyme. fact is, it is not always accurate.

How much of the industry's printing is done using letterpress?

Very little. Today, letterpress is used for very high quality moderate-run label printing, like wine labels, and not much else. A few wedding invitations and other society printing jobs are run letterpress, but letterpress has a problem: it's hard to do. In the label business, UV flexography and rotogravure have basically taken over all of letterpress's market; in general commercial printing, offset and rotogravure have supplanted it. And in invitation printing, most of that's done in thermography. About the only reason I can think of to keep a letterpress AS a letterpress, and not convert it into a diecutter, is to do crash imprinting. Crash imprinting is done when you've got a multi-part form you need to number. To do crash imprinting, you buy a numbering tool for your letterpress. The completed multipart form is fed into the letterpress and numbered, and the numbering will imprint on all parts of the form. The problem with this is, crash imprinting has NEVER been a huge market and it's getting smaller.

Is derek longmuir gay?

Irving Langmuir was a Nobel-Prize winning scientist. He was obviously of the Jewish faith. I have never heard of Derek Longmuir which you may have misspelled there was a popular rhyming slang thing that Irving Langmuir invented Rotogravure. it Rhymes but is not true, to my knowledge.Derek Longmuir is, along with his brother, Alan, a founding member of the 70's pop group the Bay City Rollers. Hence, the spelling is correct. As for as his sexuality that is open to question. Derek has not come out and made any declaration of his sexual orientation. And despite references in books, there no guarantee in either direction.
