she grew up in the great depression. her father was a rail road man and lost his job. they had lived in Cleveland but they had to move to find work. her father also had 3 or 4 houses they rented but he had to sell them one by one. one family who rented had to pay them half in cookies. Her father had numerous jobs because of the depression. he was a a corn flakes sample deliverer and worked part time at a chinese resaurant. So that is what the family ate: cookies corn flakes and fried noodles. Her family lived in a two door garage and she and her 2 siblings had to take turns warming themselves on the coal stove. It was so cold they would sleep and get dressed under rugs and blankets and would wear two pairs of socks on their hands and feet on their way to school. They went to a private catholic school. Her mother insisted this. But Dynamite would always get in trouble. She actually wanted to be a nun for a while but its funny because at some point she was a stripper. Her mother grew up in a lace curtain irish home and was still very proper even during the depression. Dynamites father would call her " Queenie." She even used napkin rings and set the table during the depression. She worked extra jobs to pay for Dynamites and her siblings tuition and book cost for private school. Dynamites father got a new job. he put "pink sheets for purses" flyers in mailboxes. he got 3 dollars a week. eventually he got a new job in akron so they had to move. In akron he was a take out deliverer. Akron was a dirty town. They lived near a railroad and people would throw watermelon and stuff at them and they would have to run on the trains and collect coal. When Dynamite was 14 she joined the NYA and made 12.50 a week making locker boxes. she gave her mom half the money and spent the rest on clothes. thats when she realised she didnt want to be a nun. She remembers wearing a pin for the technocracy party with her friend because her friends father was in the party. She eventually got a part time job as a baker. Right out of highschool she married the guitarist in the band she was singing in. she thought it was going to solve everything. she just didnt want to go back to sleeping on the floor. She was pregnant in two months and by the time WWII broke out she was pregnant with her second child. Once her husband and her went from bringing home 7 dollars a week to 65 dollars a week she would blow it on clothes. but Dynamite does't regret anything.
