Poirot sends Captain Hastings to investigate at Hunter's Lodge because he needs someone on the ground to gather information and observe the situation while he works on solving the case from a different angle. Hastings' presence allows Poirot to have eyes and ears at the scene of the crime to provide valuable insights and details that can assist in solving the mystery.
