Well the Putnam's have lost all of their children and only have Ruth left and the Nurse's have had nine health children. Also that Rebecca had said that the kids were just playing around that they will grow out of their foolish games but the Putnams wanted to believe that it was witchcraft that has gotten the kids. So they both don't like each other presence.
John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey are the main nonconformists in The Crucible. Reverend John Hale, Ezekiel Cheever, Reverend Samuel Parris, Betty Parris, Mary Warren, Thomas Putnam, and Ann Putnam are the conformists.
The theme of revenge is in the crucible through Abigail Williams, who is jealous of John Proctor's wife Elizabeth. She accuses her of witchcraft by saying that she sent her spirit to stab Abby with a needle. She wants Elizabeth dead because Abby wants John Proctor. They had an affair, and Abby still loves him. After finding out about the affair, Elizabeth fires Abby, so Abby is obviously not happy about that. Also, revenge is shown through Ann Putnam who openly discusses how Rebecca Nurse delivered all eight of her children, and only one survived. Mrs. Putnam thinks that Goody Nurse is a witch and killed the children on purpose. Lastly, revenge is shown through Thomas Putnam who accuses people through his daughter Ruth of witchcraft. Once the person accused has either been hanged or put in jail, he buys their land. Thomas Putnam does this to people he wants revenge on (which is pretty much everyone in Salem).
All of her children have died under the midwifery of Rebecca Nurse, with the exception of Ruth, and now even Ruth is ill.

The political relationship between the Putnam and Nurse families is that the Nurse family is good, and the Putnam family is bad. As in the Nurse family has good values and is very well respected while the Putnam family is greedy and jealous. For example, Mrs. Putnam's jealousy of Rebecca Nurse leads her to accuse Rebecca of being a witch. Another example is how Mr. Putnam begins accusing his neighbors of witchcraft just to obtain their land after they hang.
Goody Putnam lost several babies shortly after birth and blames Rebecca Nurse (out of jealousy of her large family) accusing her of witch craft.

Putnam and Proctor argue over the proper ownership of a piece of timberland where Proctor harvests his lumber. Putnam claims that his grandfather left the tract of land to him in his will. Proctor says that he purchased the land from Francis Nurse, adding that Putnam's grandfather had a habit of willing land that did not belong to him. Putnam, growing irate, threatens to sue Proctor.
He is an influential (and rich) citizen of Salem who holds a grudge against Francis Nurse for preventing Putnam's brother-in-law from being elected minister. Putnam uses the witch trials to increase his own wealth by accusing people of witchcraft and then buying up their land.
