The northern hemisphere counterpart would be the Auk. Auks are from a completely different evolutionary family than penguins. Auks can fly but look and act a lot like penguins. Penguins and auks are a good example of evolutionary convergence.
Yes. There are about a dozen different species of penguin that are regular inhabitants of New Zealand, including the sub-Antarctic islands such as Campbell, Auckland etc. We occasionally have rarer visits of other penguin species.

It depends on the type of penguin you are talking about.
A penguin.
Penguins actually mostly live in the southern hemisphere, with only one species, the Galapagos penguin, found in the northern hemisphere. The majority of penguin species are found in Antarctica, South Africa, Australia, and South America.
Polar bears are in the northern hemisphere, while penguins are in the southern hemisphere. If they ever met, the penguins would be eaten.
All species of penguin are native to the Southern Hemisphere. The Galapagos penguin lives in the vicinity of the equator and so, technically, a few miles into the northern hemisphere, but no penguins live any farther north than that.

I think a penguin. It is not the penguin. The penguin does not live in the northern hemisphere.

Eskimos live in the Arctic (North Pole region) and the penguins live in the Antarctic (South Pole region), they are in opposite sides of the Earth.Eskimos live in or near the Arctic circle in the northern hemisphere. Penguins are found on Antarctica and surrounding islands in the southern hemisphere. They are very far apart. This, of course, does not prove Eskimos will not eat penguin, as they could import penguin meat (if it is legal) or travel to Antarctica to eat penguin.
No. Penguins do not live in the Arctic. They are found in the Southern Hemisphere, including around the edges of the Antarctic continent, but they do not live in the Northern polar regions.
