What is the difference between best actor or best supporting actor?

the best actor is for those who play the main role in a move. the best supporting actor is only secondary to the best actor. he may play a villain in the movie or any other roles.

The Best Actor & Actress were included as the Academy of Motion-Pics Arts & Sciences categories selected originally the 5 original categories as shown in the 5 spokes wheel on which the Oscar statuette of a Human figure stands. In its 8th presentation1936 it was annexed into the categories at the Oscars. Till its 16th Awards ceremony the winners in this category received only plaques, but since the 1943 presentations the Oscar statuette was included in the year 1943.

Though not an original category, it is regarded as a great pride, since the Actors & Actresses had the least screened time, which awarded the Supporting stars had to b really good actors. Like the lead stars r the supporting category wasn't part of the Top 5 categories, also called the grand-slam in Oscar history i.e Best-Pic, Dir, the 2 lead actors category & Adapted screen play, won only by 3 movies till date.
