I think that depends on what you feel is Gothic. To really understand, you must go past Dracula, and more on to Frankenstein, Vathek, Therese Raquin, and The Monk. Gothic horror, in its truest sense, is not about dressing up in black, but rather is an examination of society. For example, a slasher movie, monster movie, and such like are all about specific events that happen to a small group of people. Traditional gothic horror was more about society itself. Frankenstein was actually inspired by Mary Shelley witnessing how freed slaves were treated in Britain. The Monk applies to corrupt people in positions of power.
Victorians were expected to constantly act prim and proper; therefore when gothic literature came out, Victorians thrived off the gothic genre. It was an outlet for them and offered people something equivalent to escaping from the real world.
Several horror movies feature the word "dark" in their titles, including "The Dark," a supernatural thriller about a woman searching for her missing son in a mysterious forest. Another notable film is "Dark Shadows," a gothic comedy-horror that follows a vampire's return to his ancestral home. Additionally, "The Dark and the Wicked," a chilling tale of family horror set on a remote farm, explores themes of grief and supernatural terror. These films showcase the versatility of the horror genre while incorporating the concept of darkness.
Gothic horror is a movie or book that's unpleasant, painful, scary, intense and also the features of a Gothic horror like candles, chandeliers or lots of black creepy settings. Horror and Gothic Horror both have the scary and intense feelings that very much make them similar except Horror is not usually Gothic.
Gothic literature is usually a combination of horror and romance, begun in the mid 1760's. It can also refer to literature from that time period. Grotesque literature features horror as well, but could be from any time period, and might contain different elements than Gothic.
