There really aren't any similarities. The Supreme Court is judicial and the House of Lords is legislative. The American parallel to British Parliament with its House of Lords and House of Commons would be Congress with the Senate and House of Representatives. But there is one thing they do have in common, and that is that they are both appointed for life.
