Scientists and Explorers are alike because they both have to draw conclusions and search for the unexpected. So a way their different is that a scientist stays in a lab and tries to solve diseases with cures, but Explorers have to go and look for those things and another alike trait would be that scientists and explorers always have to have preparedness and risk taking. Scientists have a variety of ways to do things as do explorers. Ways that Scientists and Explorers are different would be that explorers have no boss; they can go out into the world and get lost with Mother Nature.

The answer depends on which astronauts you're referring to. The first Astronauts were very much explorers, going where no man has ever gone before. Yuri Gagarin of the USSR and Alan Shepard of the United States proved that man can survive in space. Later cosmonauts and astronauts proved among other things that man could eat and perform normal body functoins in space. They also showed that man could survive for long periods of time in space.

The Apollo astronauts (Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 & 17) took exploration to its fullest by landing on the moon. Each Apollo spacecraft was manned by a crew of 3, two of whom landed on the surface, while the 3rd member explored the moon from 60 miles above its surface.

Ths Shuttle astronauts basically built on the knowledge learned by the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo astronauts. Shuttle astronauts didn't explore the universe like their predecessors. The Shuttle astronauts, and especially those aboard the International Space Station, use space not as a place to explore, but as a place to do research that is impossible to do under the influence of gravity.
