Deep below the northern half of North America, there are huge salt deposits that would make any one man insanely wealthy, but up to now there has been no one that can make machinery to do it. The salt travels slowly upwards over millions of years, and when it gets to planting depth, it kills all living organisms like a parasite. It absorbs all of their food and water, leaving the plants to die.
