The group of islands in the Caribbean ocean are known as the Greater Antilles, which consist of Jamaica, Cuba, and other island territories. The Lesser Antilles consist of the Virgin Islands, Barbados, and other island territories, and the Leeward Antilles which consist of Aruba, Curacao, and other island territories.

The islands are known as the West Indies, from the European assumption that they had reached Asia.

They are also known as the Antilles. The four larger islands of Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica are known as the "Greater Antilles", while the smaller islands (especially the eastern arc reaching South America) are the "Lesser Antilles".
