Donkeys don't need much care, they dont eat too much and are suited by just grass/weeds. They do need to get their hooves trimmed every so often, idk the amount of time but you will be able to tell very easily and a Farrier will trim them for you. Donkeys are wonderful pets and they dont over eat like horses might.

If you mean the life expectancy, most donkeys in Western countries live around 37 years, but many live beyond 40 and 50 is not unknown. If a donkey is well nourished, vaccinated and wormed and is not worked until it is at least 5 years old, it can expect to live at least 35 years.

You look at how far the gums have receded back from the teeth . Hence don't look a gift horse in the mouth ...You should be thankful of a free horse no matter how old it is.
