Forrest Gump is very much a 'mood piece', lacking any clearly evident theme, yet purposefully evoking feelings of nostalgia in "Baby Boomers". The films use of a 'simple minded' character to experience popular events and moods of the 1960's, 70's, and 80's clearly was intended to abandon judgment in favor of a more 'mirrored effect'.
