The Mojave Desert is probably the most famous. The Great Basin Desert is also very extensive along the northeastern parts of California and has its own claims to fame. The Colorado Desert (west of the Colorado River) is generally low, hot and dry enough to be famous in its own right, but is often not distinguished from the Mojave Desert.
