We'll start from the end of the film where it shows Rob and Beth at Conney Island. As the camera looks over the ocean you'll hear some very quiet tinging/ringing bell sounds, as soon as they're over you see an object fly into the ocean. That's a satellite for a digging company which was digging in the ocean for a certain substance used in a Japanese drink. The satellite woke the monster up from the deepest parts of the ocean. The monster was a baby and went into the city after being awoken. It was scared because it was in the city - which is a very different place from the ocean. In Cloverfield 2 it is believed to feature the parents of the monster. If you want to know whether the monster survived the Hammerdown (Several powerful bombs going off), go to the very end of the movie, after the credits and you'll hear static then a voice that sounds like it's saying "Help us", that's Rob. When it's played backwards it says "It's Still Alive". There you have it - the monster survived. Also, the story behind the title, JJ Abrams (Producer of Cloverfield) goes down a road called "CloverDALE" to get to an office that he goes to. He got "Cloverdale" mixed up and put "Cloverfield" as the title since he didn't mind what it was called.
