Probably a number of crime dramas. I can recall one where the FBI men were trying to solve a series of assaults on Opera actresses. the only witnesses reported someone with a very deep and demonic voice. It turned out- and there were a number of false leads as the G-men thought the possible suspect was deceased- to be a woman who was a real operatic star, presumed dead after a suspicious fire- and well, she had lost her voice do to smoke inhalation! no, Jerome kern did not write the script. It was an episode on a crime drama called ( the Night of the Diva).

Probably the somewhat controversial Where"s Charley which dates to the mid-thirties and starred a pre-Oz Ray Bolger in a female-impersonator role. I saw the thing many years ago as oddity of oddities, part of a St. Patrick"s day pageant. I couldn"t understand the plot but seemed to recall it had something to do with Draft Evasion, there was a marching band in the play that was called the New Asmolean Marching Society. I thought it was U S Army marching society! a somewhat similar ( Drag) plot device- not auto racing sense, was in the oddly titled- Some Like it Hot.
