The mission was Apollo 11
The rocket was a Saturn V (Roman numeral for "five [5]")
The Command Module was "Columbia"
The Lunar Module was "Eagle"
Neil Armstrong & Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin walked on the Moon (using "Eagle" to get onto the surface) while Michael Collins orbited the Moon in the "Columbia".

Eagle was built to hold 2 astronauts, not 3.
In 1969, no one would dock 2 spacecraft unless there was a pilot in each vehicle, so one astronaut was forced to stay in orbit & he not get to walk on the Moon. This was all decided in advance - after all, they needed to train for their specific jobs, so Collins knew that he would not walk on the Moon that time.
However, if the Apollo Program had stretched out longer, Collins probably would have had his chance.
Unfortunately, the American public soon became so accustomed to Moon missions that they paid very little attention to them, until Apollo 13 had its accident. The motion picture "Apollo 13" is VERY accurate.
Not long after 13 came home safely, Americans were back to their "ho-hum" attitude toward Moon missions (except for me & some of my friends - we followed EVERYTHING).
It was as if people thought "We are going to the Moon again? WHY?" or using the more modern comment, "Been there, done that..."
But we SHOULD have been saying "Been there... Done that... Going BACK again !!"
Instead, the decision was made to end the Apollo Program early. Number 17 was the last one to fly.
Shortly after that, NASA started designing the Space Shuttle. in fact, some of the original concepts date back to the early 1970's, while Apollo was still flying to the Moon.
And you may know that the Shuttle first flew in April of 1981, just a few months after i started working here (and i still do)...
but THAT is another story.........

Now for a little about this Center & me: i grew up in Houston, and i remember how excited i was when NASA decided to put the "Manned Spacecraft Center" [MSC] here. I was 12 when NASA started building MSC, and it opened in 1964. Later, MSC was re-named for President Johnson ["LBJ"] after he died in 1973, thus it us now Johnson Space Center [JSC].
i was in college at the time of Apollo, studying engineering & wanting to work at NASA in Houston since i was a kid. i was actually hired just 2 months before the first Shuttle flight, and i have been here for ALL of them.

An original Saturn V, along with an Apollo capsule, rests on its side at the main gate of JSC in Houston, and is now covered by a building, to keep it from weathering so quickly & to provide wall space for posters that tell about the Apollo Lunar missions. Tourists can see it if they pay for an admission to Space Center Houston, a non-Government-run organization with lots of space-related activities & an IMAX theater. Then you can take a tram onto NASA property to see Mission Control, some training facilities & the Saturn, etc.
you MIGHT even see an astronaut or two.
Come to Houston & visit us !!
The Apollo 11 was the name of the spacecraft that carried Neil Armstrong to the moon.
The name of the spacecraft to that carried man to the moon was the Apollo11 and the lunar module was called The Eagle.
There has never been a space shuttle to land on the moon. The only manned vehicle to visit the moon is the Lunar Lander. The first one to land on the moon was called the 'Eagle.' Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin where on board when that happened.
The name of the first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong.
The first spacecraft on the moon was called Eagle. After the Jules verne spacecraft.
Saturn
The name of the first moon landing vehicle was the "Lunar Module," also known as "LM."
The first manned vehicle to land on the Moon was called the Eagle, which was carried into space by a Saturn V rocket. It isn't correct to call it an "aircraft" because there is no air in space or on the Moon! This happened in 1969.

The vehicle that carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the Moon was called "The Eagle" while in transit to and from the lunar surface, and the same vehicle was called "Tranquility Base" while landed on the lunar surface. Apollo 11 was the name and number of the mission.
The Lunar Roving Vehicle
It was called the Eagle, after the Jules Verne novel. From the earth to the moon.
The name of the first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong.
Neil Armstrong did not travel in a space buggy; he was the first human to walk on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. However, the Lunar Module used for the mission was named "Eagle." The Lunar Roving Vehicle, or "moon buggy," was used in later Apollo missions, specifically Apollo 15, 16, and 17.
