Possibly Gigantor, originally Japanese in the sixties but reruns have long life. possibly also Shazam whose Giant Genie ( male) was given life with possibly two rings banged together ( a forerunner of campaign ribbons?) and the magic phrase uttered. Gigantor by the way was a remote controlled Robot. The name means Giant in the Male gender, in Latin. a Female equivalent would be a Gigantrix.
They're real in the sense they are real cartoon characters but of course giant talking anthropomorphic chipmunks do not exist.

The name of the cartoon is "The Selfish Giant" taken from the book originally by Oscar Wilde. I remember the cartoon vividly. The only place I found it recently was in oue public libary. Cheers!
