Lake Taupo
Taupo is a town by Lake Taupo near the centre of the North Island of New Zealand.
Aoraki / Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand, reaching 3,754 metres (12,316 ft).[1] It lies in the Southern Alps, the mountain range which runs the length of the South Island.
Taupo comes from 'Taupo nui a Tia' which means, 'the great cloak of Tia'. Tia, of Te Arawa iwi, was an early explorer of the central North Island and when he reached Lake Taupo, it reminded him of his cloak but on a grand scale (in some versions it is some cliffs that he likened to his cloak).
