Amateur inventors, often comedic, have been a sort of staple plot device for the lighte side of Science-Fiction works. You are probably thinking of Weird Science where the teenagers clone an attractive ( and how) YOUNG LADY. (SHE looks a bit like Lollobrigida but is not.)
