The experience ruined the youth's expensive silks and velvets. The good-humored youth treated the dunking as a joke, but his fiancee, Princess Gayelette of the North, didn't. Instead, the Princess planned to have the monkeys dropped, with their wings tied, in the same river. Quelala objected, because he didn't want his prankster friends to drown. So Gayelette instead obliged the monkeys to carry out three wishes for the wearer of the Golden Cap, which was a wedding present to her future husband. Quelala's command was for the monkeys to stay out of his wife's sight, and therefore safe from vengeful thoughts. Unfortunately, the cap ended up in the hands of the Wicked Witch of the West.
