Hamlet is making comparisons between the emotions which the actors portray and real emotions as they are felt by people. Just prior, the lead actor had given a very moving speech and had managed to make tears run down his face, now Hamlet, who has every cause for an emotional tirade, must hold his own emotions in check until he can prove Claudius's guilt, and he plans on using the play to make Claudius betray himself.

Act IV, Scene iv in Hamlet ends with his soliloquy. He muses about his motivations and how he needs to move forward with his revenge. At the end of the speech, he steels himself to only focus and act on his bloody thoughts (those that drive him toward his revenge on his uncle). However, later Hamlet will show that this resolve is only in his words and not his actions.
The only protagonist in Hamlet is Hamlet, who emerges victorious only in the sense that he does end up getting his revenge on Claudius. Everyone else dies in the process, however.
The beginning plot of Hamlet ended in the last scene of Act 5.

Hamlet suggests that he may act crazy. The audience does not know how Hamlet will avenge his father's death. It is not yet known whether Hamlet will fulfill his father's wish.

The end of Act One follows the visitation of the Ghost. Hamlet is visibly shaken and possibly mad by the end of the act. The ghost has given him a mandate to act; Hamlet must now take steps to complete that action or reject the ghost altogether.
Hamlet tells his mother Queen Gertrude that she must repent choosing Claudius over his father. This occurs in Act 3 scene 4 of Hamlet.
