Since the components found in sand are minerals and not proteins, sand does not have a phi value; though, if it did, it would be 0.

"A phi value near 0 suggests that the region surrounding the mutation is relatively unfolded or unstructured in the transition state"

Since minerals do not fold like proteins, they do not have folded transition states / the "folded" state is equivalent to the "non-folded" state.
