Not only did Greek people watch drama for entertainment, they also watched it to interpret it. The Greeks took democracy very seriously, they looked to the playwrights to raise issues in society. After they watched a play, they would discuss it for hours, trying to decipher the true meaning of the story. In order to form a better civilization, these lessons were important to the Greek people. These famous wisdoms were the quotes from the plays that people would discuss. They would converse about what happened in the play, and what this character could have done better to that character and so on. Often, if the play they were discussing was a tragedy, they would compare the evil in the story versus the evil in the world. They would try to organize the civilization and find theories through the playwrights words. Today, this has still helped our democracy

I am afraid any answer to this question will be nothing but an honest opinion. So, whatever comes from my mouth is merely a personal outlook on the matter. However, if you find it agreeable or complementary to your person, by all means accept whatever information I can offer. In all sincerity, I would say that theatre affects society in many ways. When screens far outrank stages, of course, theatre has less impact; but, the impact that it does have could be attributed to the intimacy of actors and audience. The very simple fact that theatre is living, can adapt, can evolve in a single production makes it formidable and, though darwinistic, more prone to survival. Movies die. Maybe we have failed to see it in our lifetime, but as time encroaches on these cinematic masterpieces they subtly fade into oblivion. Look on Shakespeare and you can see the perpetuity of theatre. You can see adaptations, interpretations, influences still thriving almost four-hundred years after the Bard. Furthermore, plays are not prone to the wiles of thiefs as movies and other mass media must guard against. A play is something very intimate between people, on and off stage. It is a piece of communal living: a source of life for a community. Movies only answer to the Mecca of Hollywood and any other massive monetary giants. They step upon the little man and his theatre, and then deny what wrong they have done. Finally, plays do retain a literary value, unlike the sole visual merits of film and such sparse attempts at "realistic" dialogue. I hope this has been helpful, and not too scathing. Adding to that, drama is important because it brings out the real self of one person through how experiences affect the person. More so, drama builds one's confidence, develops one's interpersonal skills and allows one to learn from the real life drama that each person experiences. Drama profoundly influences a person's life and is deemed to play a significant role in dealing with real life issues and concerns.

1. Drama as satire: satire is a literary devices which ridicules it's subject with the intended means to provoke change or correct the ills of the society. So therefore, drama as satire helps to portrays the events or vices that occurs in the society and help to correct the ills of the society. A perfect example of satire is Woke Sokinya's play The Trial of Brother Jero, in this play, Sokinya was criticizing the society on religious hypocrisy.

2. Drama as social therapy: drama or literature is the mirror of life through which imitation of art are carried out. According to the pragmatic approach to literary criticism, it shows the utility of art - how it positively affects the reader. Aristotle and Wordsworth lay great stress on Art's supposed therapeutic value that is, having a positive effect on the mind or body of the reader. So therefore, drama as social therapy helps the audience or the society develop positive ideas and motions about the society.

3. Drama as an instrument of change: drama is didactic in nature that is it teaches good morals and values. So therefore, drama as a relevance to the society helps to condemn ills of the society and help teach moral lesson so as to induce change in the society.
