What is the relationship of Wicked to Wizard of Oz?

There was a lot of work done so that it there was no actual connection. Supposedly Wicked is the story of what happened before Dorothy showed up in Oz. It actually projects the Wicked Witch of the West as a more or less nice person. It provides a different point of view.

Basically Wicked is the Back story about the witches of oz. Elphaba, who is the Wicked Witch of the West was born green so nobody liked her. She went to University and met Galinda, who is the Good witch of the north. Nessa Rose is the witch of the east, but in wicked is elphie's sister and also in a wheelchair. Elphaba actually becomes friends with Glinda and is very intalligent at school. She is sent to meet the Wizard and finds out that he has been caging animals and stopping them from talking, so she becomes slightly wicked to citizens of oz but is really being very good. She ends up falling in love with someone called Fiyero, who when being chased for being with Elphaba, she turns into the Scarecrow to protect him from harm. Also while she was saving animals she looked after a small lion cub but never let him into the wild, so he became the Cowardly Lion. And a boy called Boc who falls in love with witch of east but is hurt when she goes evil, he becomes tin man. Glinda and Elphaba become extremely good friends and behind all the wizard of oz nonsense they help each other. Elphaba doesn't really melt, but runs off with the Scarecrow who was Fiyero her true love. Overall it is brilliantley and everyone should try and watch it. The songs are marvelous like: Defying Gravity/Popular/For Good.
