What is the setting and plot of the movie Braveheart?

The movie braveheart is about the revolt of the Scottish people to push the English out of their country so that they could be free again. More specifically it is about the man who chose to lead this revolt after his wifes throat was slit by English soldiers.

It is supposed to be the story of Sir William Wallace (1272 - 1305) Scottish patriot and brave resistance hero, in his quest to keep Scotland free from the English; particularly from the determined English King, Edward I (nicknamed "Longshanks" because he was unusually tall for those days), and who was also known as the "Hammer of the Scots".

Although "Braveheart" (1995) is a great adventure movie, much of the history is just made up, where the truth would have been just as exciting. But hopefully it will encourage people to read about Wallace, and also Edward, to find out what actually happened in their lives.

Trivia:

In an age when people were not tall in stature, not only was Edward I very tall (6' 2") for his time, Wallace was also said to be well over 6' in height.
