Maria- do not confuse with the song of same title from the (West Side Story). Two different songs.
It was a song in Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story", sung by the character of Maria, the Puerto Rican female lead and sister to Bernardo, leader of the Sharks. The song describes how she felt after falling in love with Tony, a member of the rival Jets.
His name is Officer Krupke and he has a song later in the show.
Somewhere, from West Side Story
About 11 like "Something's Coming", "Maria", "America", "Somewhere", "Tonight", "Jet Song", "I Feel Pretty", "One Hand, One Heart", "Gee, Officer Krupke" and "Cool". There are also: The opening Overture, the Prologue, Dance at the Gym, the Rumble, A Boy Like That, Taunting Scene, and the Finale.
Tony
In West Side Story Anita tells Maria that Tony is bad 'A Boy Like That' because he killed Bernardo, but Maria retorts with 'I Have A Love' where Maria tells Anita in song that Tony is her love, right or wrong. At the end they agree on what love is, and they harmonize with the lyrics 'Your Love Is Your Love'

Not familiar with this as a song title. Maria ( not the West Side Story song) is one of the livelier songs of the play. not aware of a song with the title you mention, maybe it is a line in a song like ( How do you solve a problem like Maria?) sounds vaguely religious.
When Tony and Maria sing the song, One Hand, One Heart, they sing that only death can separate them.
P. J. Proby, and Barbra Streisand have each sung it. It is a song from the West Side Story musical.
East Side Story - Bob Seger song - was created in 1966-01.

After Tony killed Bernado Maria didn't want anything to come of them but in the song Somewhere he comes up with a lot of places they could go to and things they could achieve but due to death there was no Tony and Maria
