The Amish do not take non-adults into church membeship. Church membership cannot be taken lightly, for one who joins the church and falls away from the church is "shunned", unable to talk to friends and family, until he comes back into the church. Teenages boys often go through a period of highly outrageous living, hemuch like a colt kids his heels up, in order to"get it out of his system". It'stypically no different thanwhat English kids go through at the same age,the teen angst and rebelliousness. In the 1953 movie, "The Wild One", Peggy Male aked, "Hey Johnny, what are you rebelling against?"tween reaching and Maelon Brando answered "Whadda you got?" Rumspringa is that period before joining the church.

They are people. Of course they can be violent. Although, they will not fight in a war or in public. They will control what they can. Check out the movie "Witness"

The police CAN arrest the Amish. The discipline that the church imposes upon its members is generally harsher than the courts can impose. For that reason, judges appear to be more lenient to the rare Amish defendant than they actually are. Amish teenagers in Sinking Springs, PA, worked a deal with the Pagans motorcycle club of Philadelphia to distribute recreational drugs to Amish teenagers. Not only were the kids prosecuted, but there were stories for a while that a major Hollywood studio was to make a movie of it. There have also been a lot of prosecutions in recent years for sex crimes against children.

John Cook did, in the movie "Witness." The Amish are no different that the rest of us. Some are generous to a fault, and some not. While you might find Amish willing to have you live with them, one would have to wonder why you'd want to. The have a strong religious belief that living apart us important to keep from losing their faith. If you introduce English attitudes and ways into the family, you would tend to cause discontent and turmoil that might tend to break the family apart.
