The southernmost point of the South American landmass is Cape Froward (Chile), although the Diego Ramirez Islands (which belongs to Chile) is considered as the most southern point although they lie to the south of the mainland/ landmass.

The Diego Ramirez Islands are part of an archipelago of islands known as Tierra del Fuegowhich are divided between Chile and Argentina.

Cape Horn, although well to the south of the landmass is not the southernmost point, but merely a marker of the Drake Passage which was used by vessels passing through the straits, and became synonymous with the "southernmost point"

The other slightly contentious contender would be the Falkland Islands to the British (known as Islas Malvinas to the Argentinians).

GPS Coordinates:

52°26'33.48"S 59° 7'10.29"W - Falkland/ Malvinas Islands

54°13'25.84"S 69°25'8.54"W - Tierra del Fuego

55°58'58.24"S 67°16'0.07"W - Cape Horn

56°29'5.25"S 68°44'3.77"W - Diego Ramirez Islands
