There is an eerie occult frisson about the Movie, not the book. Something is not quite right. it is wrong to abduct people in the middle of the Night ( KKK did it after the Civil War!) The camera angles are such to make the adult characters and equipment ( rolling stock on the railroad, for example) seem larger than life and the adult characters , while mostly good, seem to be a bit menacing. there is an occult umbra around the Polar Express, which incidentally, does not employ any of the traditional Christmas carols/ Even Santa Claus seems to be huge and menacing, from still photos.
