There was a film like this called 'Quaretmass and the pit'. It was in colour but some camera shots of the grasshopper/demon like creatures were in black and white because there were images from a machine 'scanning' the pods. Sorry, just read what I posted but it should say 'Quatermass' pronounced 'kwaitermass' I've seen this movie several times under the title "Five Million Years to Earth".
