What is the town for Nightmare on Elm Street?

I think the name of the town that Freddy Kruger terrorizes -- the place where he lived and was murdered -- is Springwood. I have no idea what state it's supposed to be in.

As far as I know, the name of the town is not mentioned in any of the films (I may be wrong about that, though). The words "Elm Street" are never spoken in the original film, so it's not much of a stretch to think that the town was never mentioned, either.

Rather, I got the name "Springwood" from the Nightmare on Elm Street TV series, titled Freddy's Nightmares. It was on from 1988 to 1990 (reruns still play on the Chiller channel), and it was basically like a Tales from the Darkside or Tales from the Crypt or Creepshow kind of show -- a different scary story with completely different characters every week. But instead of your host being the Crypt Keeper, the host of the show is Freddy (Robert Englund). All of the episodes have something to do with nightmares -- in every episode, nightmares somehow figure into the plot.

Anyway, at the end of the intro/theme music to the show, just before the actual episode starts, Freddy says, "You're in Springwood now! Mua ha ha ha ha ha ha..."

So, unless they changed the name of the town for the TV show, Elm Street is in Springwood.

It isn't based on anything. It's a completely fictional story.

The idea for the Freddy Krueger character came from a creepy vagrant who frightened writer/director Wes Craven when he was a child. The man wore a hat and sweater similar to Freddy's.

It was filmed in Southern California in many different places. The house is actually a real house and the outside has recently been restored to it's former glory. The inside of the house wasn't used in the films but the outside was and Glens house is located on the same street in real life that Nancy's is located on. A real family lives in the home so it's not ok to go knocking on their door but I am pretty sure they allow people to take photographs in front of it. Here's the address below

The original Nightmare on Elm Street is supposed to take place in Los Angeles, California. There are palm trees in multiple scenes, which is one of those things LA is known for. In later sequels, the location was changed to a fictional town called Springwood, Ohio because child abductions became a massive problem in LA in the 1980's. The original plot revolved around the return of the vengeful spirit of deranged child killer Fred "Uncle Freddy" Krueger, who haunts local teenagers in their dreams and kills them in manners that could be deemed either suicide or unsolvable murders. He does this to get revenge on their parents. They were once his targets themselves, but he never got to them because the Elm Street parents caught him in the act, captured him, and burned him alive 15 years ago in his place of work where he did his crimes. Now those teenagers are the only ones who can stop him.
