What factor determines the spacing of the sidebands in an amplitude modulated signal?

Its a function of the signal bandwidth. If you modulate a 1 MHz carrier with a 1 KHz sine wave, you will see three peaks in the frequency domain - the carrier - the carrier minus 1 KHz - and the carrier plus 1 KHz. If the carrier is 100 MHz, the spacing is still the same, unless you consider spacing to be proportional to the carrier frequency - but that does not seem to be the question. Improved. Bandwidth is a function of modulating frequency in simple Amplitude Modulation. As described above, 1 MHz signal with 1 kHz modulation creates a lower side frequency (1000 - 1) = 999 kHz, the carrier = 1000 kHz and the upper side frequency 1001 kHz. These two side frequencies exist up to the point of 100% modulation. Over 100% modualtion, large numbers of extra side frequencies ("Splatter") will exist. Since we rarely use single-tone modualtion, but a spectrum of modulating frequencies, the upper and lower energy appears within the two side bands - commonly called sidebands. The composite signal now comprises a lower sideband, which (for a maximum modulating frequency Fm) extends "down" to Fc-Fm, the carrier (Fc), and the upper sideband, which extends "up" to Fc+Fm. Be aware that advanced AM techniques, such as SSB-SC and VSB may use half the bandwidth of full-carrier, both-sidebands AM. Also, be aware that AM techniques used in digital data (QAM, Trellis coding, etc) processing differ from the "audio/broadcast" descriptions above.

What is analog modulation?

Analog modulationIn analog modulation, the modulation is applied continuously in response to the analog information signal.Common analog modulation techniques are:Amplitude modulation (AM) (here the amplitude of the modulated signal is varied) Double-sideband modulation (DSB) Double-sideband modulation with unsuppressed carrier (DSB-WC) (used on the AM radio broadcasting band)Double-sideband suppressed-carrier transmission (DSB-SC)Double-sideband reduced carrier transmission (DSB-RC)Single-sideband modulation (SSB, or SSB-AM), SSB with carrier (SSB-WC)SSB suppressed carrier modulation (SSB-SC)Vestigial sideband modulation (VSB, or VSB-AM)Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM)Angle modulation Frequency modulation (FM) (here the frequency of the modulated signal is varied)Phase modulation (PM) (here the phase shift of the modulated signal is varied)

What are the disadvantages of single sideband AM transmission?

An AM transmission, viewed on a spectrum analyser, has a carrier and two sidebands. AM transmissions are easy to generate, transmit and receive. This is the advantage of AM. AM is widely used for broadcast radio stations below 30MHz. If a very high quality filter is used, the carrier and one sideband can be removed from an AM transmission. This is called single sideband (SSB). The main advantage of SSB is that it occupies less than half the spectrum space of an AM transmission so more than double the number of transmissions can fit into a given frequency band. This is the advantage of SSB. SSB is used by ships, aircraft and radio amateurs. To receive SSB, the carrier has to be recreated in the receiver on exactly the right frequency. This makes SSB transmissions tricky to tune in. SSB has the nick name of "Donald Duck" because this is what it sounds like if the receiver tuning is not quite right. Also music is very difficult to tune in. This is the main disadvantage of SSB.

How ssb operation?

Generate full AM signal. Then pass through very sharp cutoff filter, either high-pass or low-pass, to eliminate carrier and one sideband. At receiver, beat with local oscillator at original carrier frequency.

When was SG-SSB created?

SG-SSB was created in 1975.

How can I safely relight the pilot light on my Carrier furnace?

To safely relight the pilot light on your Carrier furnace, follow these steps: Turn off the furnace and wait for at least 5 minutes for any gas to dissipate. Locate the pilot light assembly and the control knob. Turn the control knob to the "pilot" position and press it down. While holding the knob down, use a long lighter to ignite the pilot light. Keep holding the knob down for about 30 seconds to allow the pilot light to stay lit. Release the knob and turn it to the "on" position. Turn the furnace back on to ensure the pilot light stays lit. If it doesn't, repeat the process or contact a professional for assistance.

What is ssb?

SSB stands for Single Sideband, a type of amplitude modulation used in radio communication. It efficiently uses bandwidth by suppressing the carrier and one of the sidebands, transmitting only the other sideband. SSB is commonly used in amateur radio and some shortwave broadcasts.

How single sideband is being generated?

In regards to the radio transmission mode, SSB is an improvement of AM, and there are generally three ways single sideband can be generated -- filtering out the unwanted sideband and suppressing the carrier; using phasing to suppress the unwanted sideband and carrier (Hartley modulator); or quadrature mixing and filtering (Weaver modulator).

What are the advantages of SSB and DSB over AM?

advantage of SSB ic can save power..and also the bandwidth requirements
