A New Zealand 1953 cupro-nickel Crown (Five Shillings)(Queen Elizabeth II Coronation), uncirculated and in absolute mint condition could fetch up to $25 NZD. If it has been circulated but still in good condition, it might fetch anything from $10 to $14 NZD.

There were 0.257 million minted.

A New Zealand 1953 cupro-nickel Crown (Five Shillings)(Queen Elizabeth II Coronation)(Proof FDC), uncirculated and in absolute mint condition could fetch up to $150 NZD.

A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation.

You are asking about a 2 1/2 Shilling (or Half Crown) coin (KM#19.3) from South Africa. The coin is 32.3mm in diameter, weighs 14.14 grams and is 80% silver, giving it an ASW (Actual Silver Weight) of 0.3637 troy ounces. The obverse (front) of the coin has an image of King George V of Great Britain and the words "GEORGIVS V REX IMPERATOR" (Latin for "George the Fifth, King and Emperor"). The reverse (back) of the coin has a large shield splitting the date (that is, "19" is to the left of the shield and "31" is to the right of it), with the words "SOUTH Africa" and "SUID-AFRIKA" (Afrikaans for "South Africa"), separated by a rosette, above the shield and the denomination, "2 1/2 SHILLINGS" below it. Only 790 of these coins were produced in 1931, making it the rarest South African Half Crown produced.

With silver currently (as of April 14, 2011) at $42.00 per troy ounce, the "melt value" of this coin is about US$15.28. Numismatically (according to the Standard Catalog of World Coins), an example is probably worth about US$225 in Fine condition, US$450 in Very Fine condition, US$700 in Extremely Fine condition and US$1,300 in Uncirculated condition.

A further 62 of these coins were produced in proof condition for collectors - an example of such a proof coin would be valued at about US$1,800.

Your coin is a 1952 South Africa (SUID AFRIKA) Five Shilling coin commemorating the 300th Anniversary of the Founding of Capetown in 1652.

A South Africa 1952 50% silver Five Shilling coin (George VI), uncirculated and in absolute mint condition could fetch up to $18 USD. If it has been circulated but still in good condition, it might fetch anything up to $12 USD.

The values quoted are the best possible for the best specimens in their grades, but may be significantly lower due to varying demand for the coin and the prevailing economic climate. A reputable coin dealer will be able to give a more accurate valuation based on inspection of the coin.

Question is quite vague although I will attempt to answer it. 1935 was the 25th Anniversary of George V (Queen's grandfather) and Queen Mary. The 5/- or crown was the only coin of the realm to commemorate this. It is worth between £10 and £25 depending on condition.
