I played this part once. In the beginning of the show when Bloody Mary is trying to hawk her goods to the men Quale says, "That's some fine merchandise" or something like that. In another scene he enters the commanders office with a package ready to for the commander to send. He reads off the address. (Quale is like the secretary to the commander). At the very end Quale is yelling out directions to the various units departing the base. Quale is a lot like Radar O'Reilly in M.A.S.H.

What was NOT a socioeconomic class of the south in the middle of the 19Th century?

In the middle of the 19th century, the primary socioeconomic classes in the South included wealthy plantation owners, yeoman farmers, poor whites, and enslaved people. However, a distinct middle class, as understood in modern terms, was not well-established in the South at that time. The region's economy was largely dominated by agriculture and slavery, which limited the emergence of a robust middle class. Additionally, there were few urban centers that could foster a diverse range of professions typical of a middle class.

How did slavery impact the social structure of the South?

Slavery enabled the large plantation owners to grow extremely wealthy, therefore creating the sort-of aristocratic upper-class of the south. Those with less slaves therefore made less money, and had less status. Those who lacked slaves completely, such as the yeoman farmers, made up the lowest classes of free whites, because of whites they were the most power. Finally below them were freed blacks, who, because of the racism instilled by the institution of slavery, were cast out of society even if they were rather successful on their farms.Hope this helps.
