Ok, that's a very vague question. First of all New Zealand isn't one island, it's made up of many islands (North, South, Stewart, Great Barrier, Waiheke, Rangitoto, Mototapu etc...) The North Island has many sub-tropical beaches, massive native forests, volcanos, mountains, lakes, rolling hills, river valleys, big cities and rugged coast line. The South has HUGE mountains, lakes, beautiful Victorian cities, rainforests, beaches and world famous fiords.

They are all in the Southern Hemisphere.

New Zealand is an old continental island. It is classified so because it used to be connected to a continent, but broke away a very long time ago, and has since then had many species go extinct or highly evolve. This is all comparable to a continental island, such as Long Island. Long island has very recently broken away from the mainland, and still shares many species from the mainland.
