From seeing the play Wicked, a viewer may believe that things aren't as bad as they seem in a wicked world. For the play gives us another point of view, which is the self-defense of Elphaba Thropp, as the subsequent Wicked Witch of the West. Play enthusiasts see the reasons behind the bad reputation that Elphaba has in The Wizard of Oz. It's a reputation that those who don't like her, and aren't like her, give to her. Within her own family, Elphaba is abused by her stepfather. And so people are given the impression that she's the far less than perfect stepdaughter, and that his favorite Nessarose, the subsequent Wicked Witch of the East, can do no wrong. As a student at Shiz University, Elphaba doesn't abandon her lifelong concern over the rights and well-being of animals, and of those Animals who stand out because of their power of speech. This is in direct opposition to Madame Morrible, University headmistress. And it's in direct opposition to her biological father, and Supreme Ruler, the Wizard of Oz. For the Wizard wants to turn caged simians into Winged Monkeys, to become his spies. Like likes like, and so Elphaba now has the enmity of her father, of her headmistress, of her stepfather, and of all those under their sway. How can she be other than normally flawed to her friends, and abnormally wicked to her enemies? From reading the original book, or seeing the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz, readers and viewers may believe that things are as badas they seem. For the viewpoint is the judgment of the omniscient narrator, who groups characters into heroic and villainous categories, with little in the gray area in-between. And the omniscient narrator isn't impartial. For the storyline is stacked in the favor of the perceived heroes: Dorothy Gale, her dog Toto, the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion.

Is wicked less scary then the Wizard of Oz?

Yes it is less scary. Wicked, is full of humor and the occational make out scene (only one). The frighteningest thing in the Wizard of Oz is a tie between the Wizard head, the witch's face, and flying monkeys. Wicked has these but "Broadway Modified". They're a bit more innocent. The dark side of Wicked is Elphaba's transition to wickedness during "No Good Deed". She creates the tinman in this song and turns bad. It's beautifully done, seeing the creation of a villan.

What does Dorothy threaten in order for the Wizard to see them in 'The Wizard of Oz'?

Call in the Winged Monkeys is what Dorothy threatens in order for the Wizard to see the five friends in "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, the threat is made in the original 1900 book edition but not the beloved 1939 movie classic. Dorothy has the Golden Cap by which the Winged Monkeys are summoned to carry out three commands. She frightens the Wizard into seeing them because she warns that the Winged Monkeys will look into the Wizard keeping his promises to help the five friends

What is the resolution of wicked?

If you're referring to the stage musical, the resolution is that the corrupt Wizard realises he has in fact "killed" his own daughter despite ironically longing to be a father thus giving him an incentive to give up his role as leader of Oz and leave for good. Madame Morrible is sent to prison and Oz finally has a good, reliable leader in Glinda. The truth about Elphaba is finally shown to the audience thus making us realise that she was never truly wicked after all and Elphaba is able to fianlly escape her reputation as a wicked witch and for the first time have love in her life and a happy ending by faking her death and escaping Oz with Fiyero, at the expense of never seeing her best friend again.

What is the basic idea of the story the Wizard of Oz?

According to The Wizard of Oz, the doers of evil may be craftier in their own time than the doers of good. But that doesn't mean victory. For the original book, and the 1939 film version, of The Wizard of Oz are on the side of the goodness and innocence of Dorothy Gale and her four friends over the evil and delusions of the witch-driven hordes of wolves, enslaved Winkies, crows and bees; the Wicked Witches of the East and of the West; the part-bear part-tiger Kalidahs; the Great Yellow Wildcat; the Giant Spider; and the Fighting Trees. As the Leader of the Winged Monkeys says upon seeing the protective mark from the kiss of the Good Witch of the North on Dorothy's forehead, ... the Power of Good ... is greater than the Power of Evil."

Why is half the movie back and white from the wizard of oz?

It was a device to show that Dorothy had left the "real" world, and had entered a land of fantasy. If you notice, on the Wicked Witches' looking glass, Auntie Em is stilled shown in black and white, even though Dorothy is seeing her while in Oz. This shows a difference between Oz and Kansas.
