The Navajo did not fish. Eating fish or water animals was taboo. They hunted with sinew backed re-curved bows, throwing sticks, snares and spears. By the mid 1700s they used guns more and more which they obtained through trading systems that reached through the Comanche to the French in Louisiana.
They were famous for a powerful sinew backed re-curved bow for hunting and war. They made baskets and pottery. Some of the baskets were jug shaped and covered with pine resin to carry water. They had spears and they had grinding stones for corn. They had knives. They had planting stick and throwing sticks a little like boomerangs for killing rabbits. They had a tool they used to reach in holes and tangle the animal's fur and catch it. They had vertical looms for making beautiful famous rugs that they still make. They had spindles to spin the wool into yarn. They had saddles and other gear for horse riding after the horse came in the late 1500s. They had wagons. They had forges for making their famous silver jewelry.
They used knives, horses, spears, re-curved sinew backed bow and arrows, throwing sticks like boomerangs but they didn't return, sticks you put in a hole an twist to catch the hair of the animal, snares, surrounding the animal with a lot of people, running them down, lures for antelope, pit fall traps, and since the mid 1600s onwards- guns. Early on the main source of guns was the French in Louisiana who traded them to the Comanche for horses.
