What leadership characteristic did sam Houston have and explain why?

Sam Houston defeated the Mexican army in the spring of 1836 showing that he was an able leader. Sam was the commander-in-chief of the Texan army that led a surprise attack against the Mexican army.

Sam Houston was a great leader on the simple fact that adversity didn't phase him. A perfect example of this was when William Barret Travis was defeated at The Alamo. General Houston at the time was saddened but not defeated. He assessed his military strategy and formed his men to finally win the war at the battle of San Jacinto. Another reason was that Mr.Houston never followed the pack and made decisions that stood for morality. An example of this is when he tried to keep Texas with the union when most other southern states seceded from the union. He was a great man and will always be one of the greatest leaders in American History.
