Stephen King's Misery. I can't remember if that line of dialogue is in the movie, but it's definitely in the book. It's when Paul Sheldon and Annie Wilkes are discussing the idea of deus ex machina (although they never use that term).
Annie complains about the way Paul "cheated" her favorite character, Misery, back to life. She says that it's like the chapter plays she saw at the movies when she was a kid. In one episode, the hero is trapped in a burning car that's gone off a cliff, and in the next episode, they reveal that he had already escaped from the car before it went off the cliff. She is very angry that the writers "cheated" the hero out of the situation, because in the former episode, "he didn't get out of the cockadoodie car!"
