"Metropolis" inspired and influenced many directors and films such as Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" and George Lucas and the "Star Wars" franchise . Almost every science-fiction film has some element of influence from the film "Metropolis" from the cityscape of "Blade Runner" to the robot C-3PO who looks remarkably like the robot-double Maria from Fritz Lang's "Metropolis .

Films influenced in some way by "Metropolis" : Gotham City, and The Fifth Element .

I'm not sure where to stop on this but the related links below have articles on the film's continuing influence .

What makes the novel and movie Divergent science fiction?

The novel "Divergent" by Veronica Roth is science fiction, or more precisely speculative fiction, because it is set in the future and contains speculations about future changes in human civilization. Science fiction does not always have an obvious connection to science as such. Any fiction set in the future will be considered to be a type of science fiction, whether it directly addresses the issue of future scientific developments or not. This is a bit sloppy, which is one of the reasons why the great science fiction writer, Robert A. Heinlein, suggested that we use the term speculative fiction instead. In either case, we get to keep the acronym SF. Not only is it set in the future but there are many serums which are technological advances plus you could tell it is in the future because of the fact there was marsh which is remains of a dried michigan lake.
