The 1950 film State Penitentiary was filmed at the Nevada state prison. I doubt any other films will be filmed there. The prison has been closed and people are trying to get it turned into something else, one option people like is a movie set.

Is the Tennessee state prison still in existence or is it an abandoned building?

The Tennessee State Prison building, which once housed James Earl Ray, the man convicted of the slaying of Dr. Martin Luther King, is no longer in use as a prison. \ At present it's future disposition is unclear, but it is currently most often used as a film set. The famous film "The Green Mile" was filmed there, as well as other movies and music videos.
