The 20 and 60 GB model and the early 80 GB models. They all have 4 USB ports and a Flash card reader. It is called backward compatibility because a console with reverse comparability would let a PS2 play PS3 games or a PSP play PS Vita games and it does not exist for any Sony Playstation Devices

Does PlayStation 1 games work on PlayStation 3?

Yes all models of ps3 support backwards compatibility with ps1 games. The newer models only lost support for ps2 backwards compatibility. Its a common misconception that the ps3 lost all backwards compatibility. Also ps1 games look great on a ps3 running at 1080p.

Is ace combat 4 for ps3?

Technically, no. It was released for the PS2, but it can be played on the PS3 if and only if it has reverse compatibility. That means it can play PS1 and PS2 games on it. Not all PS3s have this feature, as it was later taken out to reduce costs. If you have one of those PS3s, you're out of luck.

How can I change my 120 GB ps3 to a 80GB?

You can not. Many PS3 80 GB models do not have the 4 USB ports that allow backward compatibility and have no advantage over the 120 GB models anyway. The Fat PS3 consoles all do run hotter than the PS3 slim models and have shorter lifespans because of this. Sure you can replace the 120 GB harddrive with a PS3 80 GB harddrive if you also add the software for the 120 GB model. You can trade your PS3 toward a 60 GB PS3 model if you want, but you would be smarter to keep both models and only use the old PS3 to play PS2 games. There is no reason to want an 80 GB PS3 as the 60 GB model does not have the less capable partially software based emulation backward compatibility used in the 4 USB port 80 GB models and instead has the emotion engine to provide the best available backward compatibility used only in the first 20 and 60 GB PS3 for the USA and Japan.

How do you play ps2 games on a 40Gb PS3?

You don't. The 40 GB PS3 is not one of the PS3 models with Backward Compatibility. Sony claims that there is not anything you can do to allow it to play PS2 games. see related link

Is Naruto Ultimate Ninja 4 compatible with ps3?

Only on the original PS3 version is backwards compatible. All of the more recent versions( including the ps3 slim) have dropped the compatibility feature which means that we cannot play the game that people have been waiting for forever on their ps3 unless it is the original ps3.

Can you play Castlevania the curse of darkness on the PS3?

Yes you can, as long as you own a PlayStation 3 with backwards compatibility, meaning that it will play PlayStation 2 games. Not all PlayStation 3 models have backwards compatibility. It varies from model to model.

Does a ps2 have forward compatibility?

How muck will you get for a PS3 console at Gamestop?

It depends upon the quality of your PS3. If it is brand new you might get 150-200 bucks for it. If it is beat up you might get 80-120 bucks for it. Also you will definitely get more for it if your PS3 features PS3 backwards compatibility(20, 60, or 80 GB models)

Can a PS3 slim play ps2 games?

In short the answer is NO. Only the PS3 60 GB can play PS2 games. This is the only model of PS3 that has backwards compatibility with the PS2. The answer is still no, but more PS3 models can play the PS2 and the details follows: The 20 GB PS3 could play PS2 games and so could the 60 GB model that was released with it and those machines are called the first generation PS3 Models. The second Generation PS3 model were the 60 GB Model and the 80 GB model and while they could play the PS2 games it was based on Partially software-based PS2 emulation while the earlier models were Hardware-based PS2 emulation. These 1st and 2nd generation PS3 models all included 4 USB ports and also had Flash memory card readers. The 3rd generation of PS3 models had the 40 GB, the 80 GB, and the 160 GB Harddrives but only 2 USB ports and do not play PS2 games with backward compatibility. The fourth Generation of PS3s are the 120 GB and 250 GB PS3 slim model which do not play PS2 games with Backward Compatibility. All PS3 models play PlayStation 1 Games and do so through software emulation.

Does the new PS3 support all PS2 and/or PS1 video games?

Unfortunately, Sony stripped out backward compatibility from the latest revision of the PS3 hardware. The only models which are backwards compatible were the original launch model PS3 and several models released up until last year which were compatible with roughly 3/4 of the PSOne and PS2 titles,

What part of the ps3 makes it backwords compadible with ps2 games?

There is not "part". It's a software sort of thing, not hardware. I recently have gotten the Yellow Light of Death, and after all of this trouble, I can say that although the slim does NOT have backwards compatibility, it has better hardware and will not crash as quickly. If you do not own a ps3 then get the slim. If you want backwards compatibility that badly, just buy a Ps2. They're only like 60 USD these days. The first 20 and 60GB models had hardware and software to allow the PS3 to play PS2 games Later models replaced some of the hardware not all and could not play as many games, but they were 80 GB and All models with backward compatibility have 4 USB ports

Can you play final fantasy 12 on ps3?
