The outsiders book is named the outsiders for one main reason. The Greasers are supposed to be the lowly class that is not treated fairly. The Socs are supposed to be the higher up class with too much treatment and everything handed to them. The Socs are inside the circles of society, popularity, and wealth. The Greasers are not included in this, therefore being labeled as outside of the circle of society, popularity, wealth. They were pushed outside of attention. Therefore, the Greasers are Outsiders. Since the book is based on the problems of Greasers, the author cleverly named the book The Outsiders accordingly.
The book is called "The Outsiders" because the gang isn't really Greasers, but they aren't Socs either. The REAL Greaser gangs described in the book were obviously not going anywhere in life, while Ponyboy, Soda, Two-Bit, Darry, Steve, and Johnny (if he hadn't have died) could do something with life if they wanted to. I didn't include Dally because he more than likely wasn't going on the right track, while the rest of the gang was.
Because they are in the outside of civilization
