Any size you want, so long as you can read it. If you're writing a screenplay you need to be careful because each page in the script equals one minute of screen time, but for a stage play you could use any readable size you wanted.

There really is no specific size that you have to be. As long as you are capable of marching drill while carrying the weight of the snare drum. We have students anywhere from very small and under 5ft tall to larger build and 6ft tall. If you are physically capable of carrying the drum and have the proper skills to play the parts then your size shouldn't matter at all.

The drum will have a maximum diameter imprinted on its outer edge. You can see it when you take the wheel off. You can find what size it is by this number - +10" means a 10" drum, +9" means a 9" drum. The size is usually in decimal inch form; ie 10.036". As far as I know, there are only two sizes on a '98 Ranger, 9 & 10. If you're still not sure, take the drum in to a shop and ask to compare!
