The color harmony in this painting was basically different warm shades of yellow...yellow ochers...which moved into either side of yellow as rich sap greens and their cool counter parts of cool greens for highlights. what makes this painting harmonious, then is the OPPOSITE colors, in both intensity and value, on the color wheel. so you have a majority of warm yellow...the harmonious compliment to that would either be a cool lavender, and a warm indigo. notice the warm reds... my inclination is that the images you see online or in a book don't really show the potency of the reds in this painting. as halfway around the wheel between the tow pervasive colors (yellow and violet) the red serves as the mediator, completing the triad. my guess is that in real life, this peice has small pockets of powerful, rich, bright (not dull) warm and cool reds... skirting each side of red into the violet and orange...softening and completing the triad.

without seeing it in person this is my best guess.

look up maxfield parrish, similar color pallet... but he played up the highlights and lowlights for maximum effect. in my opinion, this painting is not the best example of true, perfected and thoughtful color theory. even the masters made blah peices.
